About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Collectivus, Revista de Ciencias Sociales is the official semiannual publication organ of scientific dissemination of the Sociology Program, Faculty of Human Sciences at Universidad of Atlántico (Barranquilla-Colombia). We define Collectivus as the partnership and interaction of political, economic, social, cultural, territorial, scientific, technical and technological practices as part of the historical and cultural analysis of the hybrid community.

Collectivus, aims to contribute to the dissemination of interdisciplinary research, related to the area of Human Sciences multiscale (regional, national and international). The journal has studies that make up social reality, territorial analysis, the understanding of sociocultural phenomena and studies directly related to the use of strategies, techniques and tools for social research. Therefore, in Collectivus, the contribution of different fields of knowledge, seeks to improve the understanding of the values of social, territorial and economic cohesion. Likewise, Collectivus submits the works to the evaluation of national and international academic peers specialists in the area of knowledge, complying with the scientific standards of quality, reference, debate and discussion of diverse topics, approaches and methodologies.

In the short and medium term, our work will focus on disseminating, attracting and persuading teachers, professionals, researchers and the public in general of Social Sciences. The journal will provide possibilities for publication and a new space of knowledge in this area. In the long term, we intend to become in a well-known journal in terms of quality and impact of scientific knowledge.

Each Collectivus issue is divided into three (3) sections of content. In the first section (presentation) some aspects of published articles are contextualized in a general way. The second section (articles), presents the conceptual development of topics. The third section (other articles), like the previous section, develops a monographic theme open to the general theme of the Journal.

The journal publishes works in Spanish, English, French and Portuguese and does not stipulate any payment or economic charges for reception, edition and publication of submitted articles.

Peer Review Process

Papers are peer-reviewed by national and international academic specialists in different areas of knowledge.

The process begins with the review of the Collectivus Editorial Committee (first filter), who verifies compliance with the "Publication Guidelines", as well as the quality and relevance for submission of articles. Then, these will be subject to evaluating by two anonymous referees that will be specialists in the area under the double-blind peer review, who will select papers by means of a confidential assessment format containing, in a general way, the following criteria: Content of the article, formal aspects, evaluation of obtained conclusions in the articles and proposal.

The last criterion on the proposal requires if the revised article is publishable, publishable without modifications, publishable with slight modifications indicated, publishable with substantial changes and reprocessing, or not publishable in its original state. Both reviews from evaluators will have to be positive; If one is not so, the article will be sent to a third reviewer, which will be a decisive opinion,  in case of approval, improvements will be suggested. During the evaluation, the names of the authors as well as the evaluators will be maintained in complete anonymity. The deadline to inform the acceptance of author’s original paper or not will be in three (3) months.

The Editor must also be informed of any possible conflict of interests with the article assigned to him, whether for academic, financial, institutional or collaborative issues between the referee and the authors, to assign another evaluator, and to indicate when there is suspicion of plagiarism or substantially resemblance to another published research product or not, so that the procedures considered in each of these cases by the Editorial Committee.

Open Access Policy

Collectivus Journal, in the framework of its policy as a new space for knowledge, provides free and open access to all content in digital format. In addition, the journal does not charge any fees for receiving, editing and publishing accepted papers.

Archiving

This journal uses the LOCKSS system to create a distributed content among the participating libraries, allowing these libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration.

Guidelines for authors

All submitted articles must be original and unpublished. These must not have been accepted for publication in another journal or book. Also, submitted articles to Collectivus Journal imply that they are not under consideration for publication elsewhere. See Guidelines for authors

Publisher

Journal History

Collectivus, Revista de Ciencias Sociales, aims at contributing to the dissemination of interdisciplinary research, related to social sciences and humanities at regional, national and international levels. The journal includes different areas of the knowledge such as: sociological studies that are configured in the social reality, geography field, the understanding of socio-cultural phenomena and studies directly related to the use of strategies, techniques and tools of social research. That is the reason, in Collectivus Journal, the contribution of different fields of the knowledge seeks to improve the understanding of social cohesion, territorial and economic values.
