Abstract
This article proposes a speculative reading of the Taino cosmologies as represented in the Relación de las antigüedades de los indios by Fray Ramón Pané and in Afro-Taino cemíes made at the beginning of the 16th century, to recognize the radical heterogeneity of Antillean indigenous communities. A dialogue is established between the concepts of perspectivism and multinaturalism developed by Eduardo Viveiros de Castro and recent studies on Afro-Taino cultures in the work of Allison Bigelow, the “spectrum of Tainoness” proposed by Reniel Rodríguez-Ramos, and the idea of the racial multiplicity of contemporary Tainos in the work of Sherina Feliciano-Santos.
