HISTORIOGRAFÍA SOBRE NACIONALISMO E IDENTIDAD NACIONAL EN LATINOAMÉRICA

Este artículo analiza el estado actual de la investigación en Latinoamérica, centrándose en el gran corpus de material producido desde los 1990s en diversos campos (historia, ciencias sociales, estudios culturales). Al analizar los trabajos sobre los siglos XVIII y XIX, toma como punto de partida el impacto causado en la investigación de los latinoamericanistas Comunidades Imaginadas de Benedict Anderson. Analiza como éstos aplicaban sus teorías y sus críticas sobre el nacionalismo en Latinoamérica. Destaca también los progresos recientes en el área y plantea la necesidad de incorporarlos en todos los debates sobre la historia y teoría del nacionalismo. Por razones de espacio, este trabajo no presenta una bibliografía mucho más extensa.

THE HISTORIOGRAPHY OF NATIONALISM AND NATIONAL IDENTITY IN LATIN AMERICA

ABSTRACT

This article surveys the current state of research on nationalism in Latin America, focusing on the large body of work produced from the 1990s onwards in a wide variety of disciplines (history, the social sciences and cultural studies). Covering work on both the nineteenth and the twentieth centuries, it takes as a starting point the impact of Benedict Anderson’s work, Imagined Communities, on Latin Americanists. It discusses the ways in which Latin
