El artículo analiza las motivaciones e intereses que originaron conspiraciones, sublevaciones
e insurgencias en distintas localidades de la antigua capitanía general de Venezuela. Se
centra en la nueva realidad política que se manifiesta pública y clandestinamente por diferentes
vías, realidad que devela la necesidad de legitimar actitudes, prácticas y comportamientos
de aquellos que pretender construir una república fundada en principios liberales;
pero también, de aquellos que manifiestas fervientes exaltaciones de lealtad, fidelidad y
apoyo a la monarquía.

SUBVERSIÓN AND PUBLIC OPINION IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE
REPUBLIC OF VENEZUELA, 1810-1830

ABSTRACT
This paper analyzes the motivations and interests which led to conspiracies, uprisings and
insurrections throughout different localities of the ancient Captaincy-General of Venezuela.
It focuses on the new political reality which shows up both publicly and secretly through
different media, a reality which reveals the necessity of legitimation of attitudes, practices
and behaviors of those intending the construction a republic founded on liberal principles;
and likewise of those declaring a fervent loyalty, fidelity and support to monarchy.
