Este trabajo analiza la imagen de los pueblos originarios de la Patagonia a través de textos escolares oficiales, salesianos y biografías sobre Ceferino Namuncurá, desde fines del siglo XIX hasta mediados del siglo XX. Estos textos escolares nos muestran el camino recorrido por los pueblos originarios patagónicos desde los “salvajes” y “bárbaros” representados en los “centauros” hasta la figura modélica, virtuosa y santa de Ceferino Namuncurá.

BETWEEN CENTAURI AND SANTOS: THE INDIANS OF PATAGONIA IN SCHOOL TEXTS AND BIOGRAPHIES OF OFFICERS CEFERINO NAMUNCURA

ABSTRACT

This paper analyzes the image of patagonia population official textbooks, and biographies on salesianos Ceferino Namuncurá, from the late nineteenth century until the mid-twentieth century. These textbooks show the path accomplished by Patagonian native peoples from the “savages” and “barbarians” as represented in the “centaurs” including the model and virtuous image of Saint Ceferino Namuncurá.
