La eclosión juntera acaecida en los reinos patrimoniales de los Borbones españoles durante la crisis política que se inició en 1808 fue una ruptura legal de las instituciones vigentes. Las propias juntas de gobierno fueron una innovación sin antecedentes que obligó a los abogados indianos a emprender un proceso de restauración de la legitimidad para los nuevos gobiernos. Los colegios constitucionales fueron la solución viable en el nuevo espíritu liberal, y de ellos emanó la nueva agenda política para los gobernantes republicanos. Este artículo examina ese proceso de transición política.

ABSTRACT
