Resumen
Este texto reseña los problemas para definir la región caribeña como zona geopolítica y como objeto de estudios. También se discute la inesperada invisibilidad del Caribe en los estudios coloniales latinoamericanos y se consideran nuevos debates sobre el colonialismo temprano y extendido en el Caribe. Se ofrece un balance de los aportes de este número especial al incluir debates sobre estudios acerca de comunidades indígenas arahuacas, estudios de materialidad, con especial enfoque en espacialidad y sensorium, ecocrítica, teoría decolonial, y estudios comparados y archipelágicos. La introducción cierra con una semblanza y dedicatoria de este número especial a Raquel Albarrán (1983-2022).
