Protection of victims of human trafficking in emergency situations

Vol. 7 No. 2 (2021): Legem
Abstract
This article will analyze the situation of vulnerability due to oppression of the victims of human trafficking, specifically in the way in which the health emergency caused by COVID-19 has affected the effective enjoyment of their protection measures. From a deductive logic, we propose a thematic development that addresses the problem posed from the international legal practice and the dogmatics of law. Victims of human trafficking are subject to systematic oppression given their evident vulnerability due to ethnic, social and economic factors. The protection measures implemented by the State may be affected by the current epidemiological context, which empowers governments to issue exceptional measures to contain the adverse effects of COVID-19 and is often reflected in an arbitrary exercise of governmental powers, in terms of the human rights of persons rescued from trafficking conditions.
