Given that Amauta is an arbitrated journal, it subjects all of its articles to a refereeing process, an assessment that seeks to ensure the scientific quality and rigor in all manuscripts submitted, also implementing the double-blind methodology as a strategy that guarantees adequate transparency in the scientific articles’ evaluation process.

The Amauta’s Editorial Board will neither evaluate articles that fail to comply with its editorial policy or its publishing regulations nor send back those unpublished. The journal editor will collectively select and classify the articles which meet said requirements, appointing arbitrators according to their expertise and research areas. All articles will be anonymously reviewed under the double-blind methodology.

About the Arbitrators

Peer reviewers are professionals with expertise in the subject areas of each article submitted to Amauta. The Arbitrator’s Committee is formed by researchers affiliated with national and international universities.

To become part of the arbitrators’ group, the following criteria must be met:

  • Having a Master’s degree, a PhD or postdoctoral degree
  • Having published scientific articles in the subject area to be assessed

Arbitrators are in charge of assessing the originality, quality, and pertinence of the data related to a research, and checking the relevance, suitability, and authenticity of the manuscripts submitted to Amauta, as their opinion is crucial for acceptance or rejection.

The Arbitration Process

The editorial management process begins once the article is received and automatically acknowledged by the OJS platform. Within five (5) working days, it undergoes a preliminary review process carried out by editors who check for compliance of the editorial criteria established in the instructions for authors. As a result, the paper may be rejected, approved, or approved with corrections to continue the editorial process, although this does not mean that the paper has been accepted for publication. Upon its completion, the arbitration process is conducted.

Two peer reviewers are appointed to the manuscript under the double-blind methodology (that is to say, authors have no access to the reviewers’ personal data and vice versa), who will assess the following scientific criteria within fifteen (15) working days: originality, scientific relevance, academic pertinence (current, high-quality references corresponding to the subject addressed), methodology, results, conclusions, discussion, among other formal aspects such as scientific language, updated concepts, proper reference citation, and appropriate use of figures and tables. Such criteria will be assessed taking the elements contained in the arbitration assessment format into account.

The expert opinions given by the referees with respect to publication may be the following:

  • The article is accepted as is.
  • The article is accepted, adding some suggestions.
  • The article may be accepted after carrying out a thorough review.
  • The article is rejected.

In all cases, the author will be informed of the decision made by the arbitrators, and the article’s acceptance will depend on whether the authors consider and respond to Amauta including the suggestions or changes proposed in the article within 15 days after receiving the notification. In turn, the Editorial Board reserves the right to make the formal modifications required to adjust the text to the publishing regulations, without altering the article’s content, which is the sole responsibility of the authors. The Amauta’s Editorial Board will have the last word regarding the acceptance and subsequent publication of the articles received.

Reviewers must take the following into account:

  • They must objectively check the quality of the manuscript with regard to the objectives, methodology, their data and interpretation, conclusions, bibliography, as well as the text’s formal aspects.
  • Their comments and opinions must be unbiased, demonstrating their assertions, being neutral and respectful toward the manuscripts and their authors.
  • They must inform the editors in case plagiarism or self-plagiarism of a published work is detected, or if they know of any similar work undergoing the revision process.
  • The manuscript’s assessment must be duly sent toAmauta, and the editor must be informed in case of delays.
  • They must check for the close relationship between the sources of information referenced and consistency between the works cited throughout the article. Also, they may suggest modifications.

Note: After completing the evaluation process, Amauta will send reviewers an arbitration certificate in gratitude for their work. To receive said certificate, the reviewer must be registered in the journal’s OJS platform.
