Synopsis

The purpose of this research was to analyze the conceptual, historical and philosophical foundations of the term "social protection". It examined here, among others, the notions of assistance, insurance, welfare and social security, together with the economic, political and social tensions that explain their historical emergence. Similarly, contemporary understandings of the idea of social protection are presented, exploring its types, components and the actors of its systems. The study concludes with a justification of the protective institution based on the modern values of equality, liberty and fraternity, as well as the action of justice.
