ABSTRACT

This essay analyzes the cross cultural phenomenon in the field of Latin American novels, and the emergence of a Caribbean sub-field that swaps the modern core of Colombian literature from Bogotá to Barranquilla and Cartagena. This document also reflects on the position García Márquez takes regarding the capitalist modernity and the role of Baroque as an alternative rationality. This paper aims at determining the relationships between history and literature in the context of the novel, as well as presenting the wonderful realism, as analyzed by Irlemar Chiampi, as the dissident and renovating discourse that García Márquez adopts in “One Hundred Years of Solitude” to go beyond that typical system Latin America had adopted: Enunciability. Finally, this work pretends to answer questions like Why does García Márquez take a position against the project of the Western rationalistic modernity? How does he do it? Which elements does he use for this? From which posture? I consider that it is here where the writer’s choice, his commitment, his proposal (not only ideological, but also aesthetic) have to be searched and found.

KEY WORDS

Cross cultural, baroque ethos, cosmopolitanism, file fiction, wonderful realism.</p>}, number={6}, journal={Cuadernos de Literatura}, author={Araújo Fontalvo, Orlando}, year={2007}, month={dic.} }
