Luruaco mountains, in the Cartagena province. This Palenque lasted approximately twenty
years during the last decades of the 17th Century. It had a heterogeneous population formed
by fugitive slaves from various African ethnic groups and creoles from the Cartagena province,
rural and urban areas. It fought fiercely to obtain freedom thinking that it was granted to its
people by a royal order. Severely persecuted by the official forces, it was destroyed in 1693.
